Here come the girls...

Sometimes, just when you need them to, the stars align and plans come together without a hitch. That's how it seemed with the Radiance photoshoot. How handy that the beautiful Kimberley Ellison, my friend, fellow student and participant in New Designers, was willing to model and happens to know the very talented photographer Nicole Gomes and make-up artist Hannah Williams. With skill and a delightful rapport, the team shot some beautiful images. I'm also indebted to Tina Steadman for creating my lovely new logo, which captures everything I hoped it would with its gentle but strong simplicity. Thanks, girls, you're the best.

New beginnings in the Sh-sh-shudio

Yesterday was the beginning. And today is another first. I finished my diploma in contemporary jewellery design at Vannetta Seecharran's School of Jewellery on Friday. We gave presentations of our work, discussed our final collections and celebrated afterwards, excitedly making plans for the New Designers exhibition in June. So, although I will continue to rent a bench one day a week at Vannetta's studio, will stay friends with my fellow students and have not been cast adrift, yesterday felt like the first day of my independent jewellery designer-maker career. It's a wonderful feeling to be doing what you love and calling it work. How did I mark this auspicious occasion? I went straight to my beloved she-shed-studio (otherwise known as the Sh-Sh-Shudio for those old enough to remember the Phil Collins hit, Sussudio) at the end of the garden and customised my bench peg, sawing a V-shape into it to make it easier to use. Now it is ready to take the strain of all the silver rings I plan to file and polish for my Radiance collection. And that other first? Today I'm publishing the first blog on this new website. I hope it will be the first of many documenting this new adventure...
